A loaded cement truck flipped over in the middle of a Saanich intersection Tuesday morning, causing traffic to be diverted late into the afternoon.

Police were called to the intersection of Interurban and Marigold roads at 9:45 a.m. Const. Markus Anastasiades said the truck was making a left turn onto Marigold Road when it flipped onto its side.

The driver wasn’t injured, but because of the weight of the full cement truck, it took crews until almost 4 p.m. to clear the area. A company first pumped the cement out of the truck, then heavy-duty tow trucks righted the cement truck and took it away, Anastasiades said.

No violation tickets were issued, but Saanich police are investigating whether any laws or regulations were broken leading up to the roll over.

Southbound Interurban Road traffic was diverted at Violet Avenue until 4 p.m.
