UPDATE: Dover Bay Secondary will re-open after electrical problem

On-site transformer failed, knocking out electricity at the school earlier this week

UPDATE: Classes will resume tomorrow at Dover Bay Secondary School. Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district reported that a transformer has been newly installed and electrical and mechanical systems have been tested and are fully operational.

“A special thanks to district staff and contractors for quickly resolving this matter and to our families for their patience and understanding,” noted SD68 in a press release.

PREVIOUSLY POSTED: Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools reports that installation of a new transformer is “well underway” at Dover Bay Secondary School.

The school district anticipates power will be restored soon, but adds that “once power has been restored, all electrical, mechanical and information technology systems will require testing.” That testing will happen Tuesday and SD68 will be able to confirm after that when classes can resume.

PREVIOUSLY POSTED: Dover Bay Secondary doesn’t have electricity and so the school will be closed the next two days.

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools posted on social media that the high school will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 12-13, after a “district-owned on-site transformer failed” on Friday, Dec. 9, knocking out power.

The school district posted on social media on Sunday, Dec. 11, that its facilities staff was on site and working to resolve the issue.

“While we don’t know how long the outage will last, we should have a better idea on Monday afternoon and will be communicating an update at that time,” noted SD68.
