Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing boy.

Chaas Mearns, 13, was reported missing from his Nanaimo home on Jan. 30. He has gone missing before and while he has returned, family and friends are expressing concern for his safety and are working with police to locate him and return him safely to his family, said Nanaimo RCMP in a press release.

Mearns stands 5-foot-1 and weighs 100 pounds.

“Investigators want Chaas to know he is not in trouble and that he is not going to be arrested if and when he is located,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in the press release. “They, like his family and friends, are very concerned for his personal well-being and just want to ensure he is safe.”

Anyone who has seen Mearns, or know his whereabouts is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Nanaimo Crime Stoppers at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com or call 1-800-222-8477.
