Police are hoping to hear from any witnesses to a collision last week involving a vehicle and a person using a motorized wheelchair.

Nanaimo RCMP issued a press release today, Jan. 6, asking for dash cam footage or cell phone video related to an incident Dec. 31 at about 11 a.m. in the 1800 block of Bowen Road.

“Investigators were able to determine that a woman, who was operating a motorized wheelchair, entered the northbound lanes on Bowen Road, in front of Tim Horton’s. While attempting to cross over the two northbound lanes, she was struck by a green Kia Soul driven by an adult male,” noted the release.

The 63-year-old who had been using the wheelchair was taken to Nanaimo hospital with serious injuries.

Anyone with dash cam footage who has not already spoken with investigators is asked to contact the Municipal Traffic Services of the Nanaimo RCMP detachment at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2020-46146.
