Nanaimo RCMP arrest two after three teens robbed

Two Nanaimo men were arrested after an incident where three 14-year-olds were robbed.

Zachary Edward Gordon, 19, and Sheldon Brent Grant, 31, are alleged to have robbed the teenagers of their belongings March 20 at 9 p.m. in a parking lot in the 4100 block of Departure Bay Road, according to an Nanaimo RCMP press release.

According to the press release, the youths told investigators that two males with their faces covered, one carrying a metal baton-like object, approached them and demanded they turn over all of their belongings. After handing over their back packs, both suspects left in a vehicle that was parked nearby.

The teens called 911 and were able to provide the license plate number to investigators.

The vehicle was spotted by investigators less than one hour later in the area of Pryde Avenue. Police stopped the vehicle and arrested two males who matched the description provided by the teens.

Police also recovered the belongings from the vehicle along with a baton believed to have been used in the robbery.

Both men face robbery charges. Gordon also faces a charge of wearing a mask while committing an indictable offence and a number of breach of condition charges. Gordon was remanded into custody while Grant was released on a recognizance. Both men are schedule appear in provincial court in Nanaimo on April 10.

The youths didn’t suffer any injuries and their possessions were returned to them.
