More than 1,000 voters in Qualicum Beach cast ballots on Wednesday (Oct. 5) during advance voting ahead of the Oct. 15 municipal elections.
“Participation was steady for the first day of advance voting… to elect one mayor, four councillors, and two school trustees for Area G,” read a press release from the town.
Voting was open for eligible electors from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.
Chief Election Officer Heather Svensen said 1,012 voters cast ballots.
“Qualicum Beach residents historically show great community pride through high voter turnouts for local elections,” she said. “In addition to the 1,012 electors who cast their ballot today, we have approximately 280 residents who have registered to vote by mail.”

The civic centre (747 Jones St.) is designated as the voting place for the remaining advance voting day on Oct. 12, as well as general voting day on Oct. 15. Voting is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day
If voters wish to avoid the most popular times on general voting day, ballots are best cast in the late afternoon or evening, according to the release. Eligible electors that are not on the list of registered electors can register at the voting place immediately before voting, after providing identification.
