The man believed to be the victim of a of a fatal incident March 10 on Hillside Avenue has been identified online as Victoria resident Joe Gauthier.
Multiple reports indicated Gauthier was a 35-year-old father of four, with two children who live outside B.C.
His Facebook page lists him as a former student of Esquimalt High School, who was originally from Winnipeg. “RIP Joe Gauthier!” a Facebook page set up in his memory, already has over 400 members and hundreds of messages of condolences.
The Greater Victoria Minor Football Association also posted on Facebook saying, “We are saddened by the sudden loss of Joe Gauthier one of our football parents.”
Police were called to the 1400-block of Hillside Avenue Saturday morning where a deceased man was found. Shortly after, two Go Fund Me pages were set up in Gauthier’s name with one reading, “today we lost everyone’s favourite person.”
On Monday, a pair of bouquets was stapled to a pole outside the house where police spent much of Saturday combing the property for evidence. The investigation has been turned over to the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, who have released little information.
