A man riding an electric scooter was assaulted last weekend in the District of Port Hardy.
Acting detachment commander Sgt. Trevor Busch said the incident first came to the RCMP's attention on June 7, roughly around 10:30 in the evening, when one of his officers was flagged down near the Chevron gas station by a group of individuals.
"The officer found a male who was identified as the victim," said Busch. "He was lying on the pavement, the officer called for BC Ambulance service to attend to provide medical care, and at that point initiated an assault investigation."
Busch noted that through the course of the investigation, the officer was able to talk to witnesses on scene who were all cooperative and provided statements, and then later in the evening the RCMP managed to successfully locate a suspect in the assault.
"That individual was arrested and brought back to the Port Hardy RCMP detachment for further investigation," confirmed Busch. "We're still determining the motive and if there are any other accomplices involved, but we do have witnesses who are cooperating to help us figure those details out. Once we've done a complete investigation, then we will be forwarding a full package to the Crown to make a charge assessment decision."
Busch thanked the responding officer for doing excellent work by immediately calling for medical attention for the victim.
