Man arrested in Harewood after short foot chase

Schools were on hold and secure during chase and arrest

Nanaimo RCMP arrested a Nanaimo man after a short foot pursuit this morning, March 8.

According to a Nanaimo Crime Stoppers social media post, 28-year-old Greg King, who was wanted on several warrants, was arrested at about noon after a foot chase on Rainier Street near Seventh Street.

Police said King was wanted for escaping lawful custody, obstruction and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Nanaimo RCMP posted on social media that an arrest had been made, that local schools were advised of the pursuit, and that nearby schools were put on a hold-and-secure while the pursuit was active.

The Nanaimo school district couldn’t immediately confirm whether any school or schools had been put on hold-and-secure.
