West Shore RCMP say a 20-year-old man is in custody after officers were dispatched to a break-and-enter at a rural residence in the 800-block of Finlayson Arm Road in Highlands.

Police responded just before 1:00 p.m. on Thursday (May 25) after a returning homeowner said they found an unknown individual inside the residence.

At 4:40 p.m., the RCMP Emergency Response Team arrested the suspect without incident after he left the residence.

Police say they recovered a firearm inside the residence.

The suspect is known to police and is in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Police had closed Finlayson Arm Road and asked the public to steer clear of the area during the incident.
