A Port Alberni resident ended up under investigation for impaired driving after a head-on collision on Beaver Creek Road on Thursday.

Port Alberni RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 4800 block of Beaver Creek Road on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6:33 p.m. A Dodge Dakota was travelling northbound in the southbound lane, forcing two southbound drivers to make emergency manoeuvers to avoid colliding with the truck. Unfortunately, a third southbound vehicle—a Dodge Journey—was unable to avoid colliding head on with the Dakota. According to witnesses, the driver of the Dakota tried unsuccessfully to leave the scene of the crash prior to police arrival.

Both drivers and a passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

The driver of the Dakota, a 23-year-old Port Alberni resident, was under investigation for impaired driving and is scheduled to appear in BC Provincial Court on Feb. 28.
