Four prolific offenders have been arrested in Port Alberni as a result of the ongoing efforts of the Port Alberni Crime Reduction Unit (CRU).
Members of the CRU located and arrested two Port Alberni residents on Wednesday, Feb. 21 A 45-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding warrant for breach of probation and fail to appear, and a 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly being in possession of quantities of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine. Both men have since been released from custody, with the second released on a promise to appear in court in April.
A search warrant was executed later that same day at a home in the 2800-block of Fifth Avenue, where numerous weapons, ammunition, drugs and cash were seized and stolen property was recovered.
The 36-year-old resident was arrested for allegedly being in possession of several prohibited firearms, ammunition, a significant amount of cash and stolen property. A 27-year-old Nanaimo man, who was found to be breaching a court order and was allegedly in possession of prohibited weapons, was also arrested. Both of these men remain in custody pending a court appearance.
“Investigators believe that these arrests will disrupt a stream of property trading and drug dealing,” said Cpl. Amelia Hayden, media relations officer for the Port Alberni RCMP. “Additionally, we have seized a cache of weapons and ammunition which may have ended up on the streets in our community.”
