One person was taken to Nanaimo hospital after a shop fire in Coombs on Sunday night.
Aaron Poirier, Coombs-Hilliers Fire Rescue chief, said the individual received burns on their hands and face.
“Coombs-Hilliers Fire Rescue responded to a report of a fully involved shop fire spreading to multiple exposures and brush in the 700 block of Bentridge Rd. at 11:30 p.m. in Coombs,” Poirier said. “Coombs Fire was assisted by the Oceanside automatic aid group consisting of resources from Errington, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Dashwood, Nanoose and Bow Horn Bay.”
Poirier said crews contained the fire to the building and exposures on the property of origin, with exception of some brush in the adjacent properties.

The last crews cleared the scene around 8:30 a.m. on Monday and Poirier said the fire is in the preliminary stages on investigation.
“Due to the type of construction and contents of the building, the overhaul process was slow and very labour intensive,” Poirier said. “Two buildings sustained heavy fire damage.”
Resources on scene included two engines from Coombs, seven tenders from Coombs, Errington, Parksville, Dashwood and Bowhorn, one aerial apparatus from Parksville, one engine from Qualicum Beach, one engine from Nanoose Bay and resources from BC Ambulance.
