A fire at a north Nanaimo light industrial property destroyed a shed and a trailer on the weekend.

Firefighters from the city’s four fire stations responded to the alarm in the 4400 block of Boban Drive shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

Stuart Kenning, Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief, said the fire started on the exterior of a metal shed on the property.

He said the fire completely destroyed the shed and an adjacent Atco trailer sustained fire and smoke damage and Kenning guessed was probably destroyed. Smoke also got into a large warehouse-style main building on the site.

“We had to shut the power off and ventilate the building to make sure there was nothing in there and it turned out there was no fire in the building,” Kenning said.

He said the fire was extinguished quickly. He did not know the cause of the blaze or what was contained in the structures, but said there was nothing suspicious noted about the fire. He said Nanaimo Fire Rescue investigators were on scene to determine what sparked the blaze.
