Environment Canada issues wind warning for Greater Victoria

Strong winds forecast from Friday morning to early afternoon

Just when Greater Victoria residents may have thought the stormy weather was behind them, Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the region.

The weather agency said it expects southwesterly winds around 50 km/h, gusting to 70 km/h, in the majority of the region Friday. Near the Juan de Fuca Strait, things will be a little more severe, with 70 km/h winds gusting up to 90 km/h.

Environment Canada warned that high winds can toss loose objects around and cause tree branches to break.

The winds are forecast to subside by Friday afternoon.
