Emergency crews are responding to a chimney fire at 28 Lekwungen Lane on the Songhees Nation.

The fire reportedly started in the home’s chimney and spread to the walls. Fire crews contained the fire, which is now out, but had to break into the roof and chimney to make sure it was fully extinguished.

More than a dozen firefighters from the View Royal, Colwood and Esquimalt departments are on scene with three fire trucks, an ambulance and another emergency vehicle.

Emergency Social Services has been contacted to help the displaced residents. A passerby noted nine people live in the residence and will be displaced by the fire.

More to come.
