The power is back on in the majority of Greater Victoria homes and businesses after thousands were left in the dark Monday afternoon.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, outages were reported by BC Hydro customers along Blanshard Street between Bay Street and Hillside Avenue, along Langford’s Strandlund Avenue, in one Brentwood Bay neighbourhood and Sooke.

Across all of southern Vancouver Island, there are fewer than 500 people and businesses still without power early Tuesday afternoon, a significant decrease from 50,000 on Monday.

BC Hydro said its crews worked through the night to restore people’s power.
