Principal Jaime Doyle has sent a note to parents alerting them to a COVID-19 exposure at Lake Cowichan Secondary School.

“I am sorry to say that we have had an ‘exposure’ here at the Lake,” he wrote to parents. “This was a very limited exposure and all those who were potentially exposed have been contacted. However, this is a good reminder to our community to not let their guard down and keep vigilant about mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing.”

The exposure event occurred Jan. 20-25, according to Island Health’s exposure notice issued by Medical Health Officer Sandra Allison and superintendent of Cowichan Valley Schools, Robyn Gray.

Doyle’s letter was sent around 8 p.m. Thursday evening, as well as posted to Facebook.

“There will be lot of questions but please understand we are very limited in what we can share as this is an Island Health matter, so we don’t actually know a lot,” he wrote. “Not the way I am sure you wanted to end your night but again, this was a very limited exposure, but it does act as a good reminder to us all that we are not out of the woods yet with COVID.”

Lake Cowichan joins the list of other Cowichan Valley School District schools, and schools across the province, country, and the world, with COVID-19 exposures.

Previously, COVID-19 exposures have been reported at Chemainus Secondary (Jan. 4), a cluster at Duncan Christian School (Jan. 6-8, and Jan. 12-15), Quamichan Middle School (Jan. 4-5), Cowichan Secondary School (Jan. 5-7), and Alexander Elementary School (Jan. 13-15) and most recently, Shawnigan Lake School (Jan. 18-20).
