Chemainus man seriously injured after fall from a tree

Trans-Canada Highway shut down as air ambulance transports patient to hospital

A local man suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital after falling from a tree in Chemainus on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred sometime after 10 a.m. on Panorama Ridge Road in Chemainus where the man was cutting down part of the tree. There were also reports the tree may have fallen on the man.

Ladysmith Fire Rescue was escorting the Wounded Warriors Run into town when they were called out to assist with stopping traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway. Chemainus Fire Rescue also responded to assist.

Paramedics rushed the patient, whose age is not known, to the bottom of Panorama Ridge Road where an Air Ambulance landed directly on the highway.

Motorists were stopped in both directions as the patient was transferred by stretcher to the helicopter.
