The rebuilding of the Carihi secondary school's A-wing continues following a fire in November.

School District 72 has announced its plan to demolish the A-wing at Carihi secondary school, which was damaged in the fire last November, with the hope of finishing it over the spring break.

The goal is to have the demolition – including the teaching kitchen, band room, storage rooms, and hallway – completed before students return on April 1, says the school district. However, it is awaiting permit approval from the City of Campbell River.

"A positive development is that our maintenance team, in collaboration with a structural engineer, has developed a plan that allows the gym, mezzanine, drama room, and lower classrooms to be repaired rather than demolished and rebuilt," reads the school district's website. "This means these spaces will remain much the same as they were before the fire."

B-wing classrooms and the multi-purpose room will be reopening after spring break, as well, the district says. Carihi students will no longer need to travel to Oyster River as a satellite location.

The majority of students are now be back at Carihi full-time.
