A family of seven – two adults and five children – was displaced by a structure fire on Sunday night, but firefighters limited the damage to a living room and rescued a small dog, according to Thomas Doherty, chief of the Campbell River Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 8:15 p.m. to a multi-family complex at 400 Robron Rd. after a neighbour reported the emergency, Doherty said in an email to Mirror. The occupants weren’t home at the time, Doherty said.
“A neighbour heard the smoke alarm sounding and when he went to investigate, he could see the fire through the door window and called 911,” Doherty said.
“Firefighters gained entry and were able to contain the fire to the living room with minimal damage,” he said.

A small dog was inside the residence, Doherty said. Firefighters rescued it and “administered oxygen using special pet oxygen equipment,” he said.

A family of seven was displaced by the fire, and they’re now in the care of Emergency Support Services, Doherty said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
