The West Shore RCMP Serious Crime Unit and BC Coroners Service continue to investigate after a body was found in the ocean midday Thursday (July 28) near Esquimalt Lagoon in Colwood.

Police responded to a report of a deceased person in the water around 11:30 a.m. While the circumstances around the death are being investigated, foul play is not suspected, police stated in a release around 5 p.m.

The BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation.

Police first warned the public of the investigation and road closure in a tweet around 12:30 p.m. Approximately one hour later, members of the BC Coroners Service arrived on the scene.
