2 people injured in SUV crash near Qualicum Bay

Bow Horn Bay Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle, high-impact collision in the 5900 block of Highway 19A in Qualicum Bay that left two people injured on Monday night (March 21).

The incident involved a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV that police say went off the road, shearing trees in its path before coming to a stop.

According to the Bow Horn Bay FD, there were two occupants in the vehicle. One was ejected from the vehicle through the sunroof sustaining multiple head and body lacerations along with other unknown internal injuries. The second occupant was also found outside the vehicle with a spinal injury.

Firefighters cleared trees and other vegetation using chainsaws and the Jaws of Life cutters in order to extricate both people.

Oceanside RCMP attended the scene as well as multiple BC Emergency Health Services units. Both occupants in the vehicle were transported to hospital.

Alcohol is a possible contributing factor to the crash, according to RCMP. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and a violation ticket for driving without consideration.
