The Oceanside Generals began defence of their Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League crown in style Wednesday night.
Goalie Marc Samyn stopped 39 of 40 shots he faced and Jacob Thomas was in on all four Oceanside goals as the Gens beat the host Westshore Wolves 4-1.
Thomas had two goals and two assists, with Zaya Morro and Grayson Erickson also scoring for the winners. Defenceman Brady Van Herk added three assists.
Zion Lavoie had the lone Westshore goal, while Benjamin Edwards took the loss in goal, making 29 saves.

Oceanside jumped to a 3-0 lead after one period, with Morro, Thomas and Erickson (on the power play) scoring within a four-minute span midway through the frame.
Lavoie scored the only goal of the second period to make it 3-1, but Thomas put the game away with a man-advantage marker midway through the third.
The Generals play their home opener Saturday (7 p.m.), when the Victoria Cougars pay a visit to Oceanside Place.
