The West Shore RCMP has received numerous reports of fraud taking place on Facebook Marketplace.
Police say fraudsters are requesting that shoppers e-transfer a deposit to hold items for sale, but the items aren’t being delivered.
“We wish to warn the public of this type of fraud,” said West Shore RCMP Const. Nancy Saggar, in a news release. “There is always a risk to buying items online, especially from sellers you don’t know.”
The West Shore RCMP recommends that people check seller reviews, pay for items with cash and meet sellers in a public place.
