The Victoria Fire Department responded to two structure fires in the early hours on Wednesday (July 10).
Just after midnight, the first fire was reported as black smoke and flames filled the air at Bridge Street and David Street in Rock Bay. Upon arrival, Acting Captain Paul Hicke immediately called for more units.
In total, eight fire crews attended, using four hydrants to battle the fire. Some firefighters suppressed one side of the property while others attacked the other side of the blaze, protecting nearby structures.
One crew applied foam to a nearby warehouse, which contained more than 100 pallets of compressed plastic, cardboard and other bulk recycling in the yard as well as lots of wood.
"The effective containment interrupted the likelihood of total building loss and further environmental challenges," according to a social media post made by the fire department.
No injuries were reported during the blaze. On top of the fire department, VicPD, emergency services, and public works also attended.
As crews were cleaning up their equipment, firefighters were called to a second structure fire at 2:38 p.m.
The fires are both under investigation to determine causes.
