The University of Victoria is reminding its community about safety precautions after a sexual assault was reported on campus.

A person – described as a man aged 60 or older and heavy set – sexually assaulted a male student in a men’s washroom, says a campus safety bulletin issued Sept. 27.

The assault was reported to have happened in the first-floor men’s washroom of the Cornett Building on Sept. 26.

“We are sharing this information out of care and concern for the campus community and out of an abundance of caution as the perpetrator remains unidentified,” the UVic alert reads.

The Saanich Police Department is investigating, the department confirmed Sept. 28.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Saanich police at 250-475-4321.

UVic used the bulletin to remind its community that support is available.

It includes campus security patrols that will closely monitor the area. Security provides a safe walk service, available 24 hours a day seven days a week, to escort within the boundaries of the campus.
