PQB crime report: RCMP say bear spray discharged in Parksville altercation

Police also deal with online scammers, trespassers, bike bandits

Oceanside RCMP received 275 complaints the week of Sept. 24 to Sept. 30.

Some of the incidents included:

Sept. 24

• A male was reported trespassing in the 100 block of Middleton Avenue, Parksville. The male was apprehended and issued a violation ticket.

• A male was reported trespassing in the 300 block of Island Highway West, Parkville. The male was apprehended and issued a violation ticket.

• Bear spray was reported discharged in an altercation in the 300 block of Island Highway West, Parksville.

Sept. 25

• An electrical utility box was reported tagged with graffiti in the 100 block of Weld Street, Parksville.

Sept. 28

• A vehicle was reported stolen in the 2800 block of Island Highway West, Qualicum Beach. The vehicle was recovered in Parksville on Sept. 30.

• A resident reported being scammed $5,700 responding to pop-up message on a computer advising to call as their device had been compromised. The scammer convinced the resident to deposit money in to crypto currency ATM.

• Money was found in the area of Craig Street and Island Highway East, Parksville. Contact Oceanside RCMP during regular hours to claim quoting File No. 2023-10523.

Sept. 29

• A resident reported being scammed $4,000 responding to a friend’s email account which had been hacked. The scammer was able to convince resident to buy gift cards.

• A green submersible drone, black flying drone and a drone boat module were reported stolen in a business break-and-enter in the 1100 block of Island Highway East, Parksville.

• A blue cordless Makita blower was reported stolen in a business break-and-enter in the 200 block of Dogwood Street, Parksville.

• A blue-and-black 26-inch Giant brand mountain bike was reported stolen in the 400 block of Stanford Avenue east, Parksville.

Sept. 30

• A 2013 Norco Kathmandu brand mountain bike was reported stolen in the 100 bloc of Finholm Street south, Parksville.

• A purple, 18-speed Supercycle brand bicycle was found in the area of Jensen Avenue, Parksville. Contact Oceanside RCMP during regular hours to claim quoting File No. 2023-10611.
