Nanaimo RCMP arrest four, seize drugs and $19K in “problem house” search

Home was subject of numerous complaints of drug trafficking, theft and disturbances

Nanaimo RCMP arrested four adults and seized a variety of drugs and $19,000 after carrying out a search warrant at a “problem drug house” on Canada Day.

According to a police press release, the search took place at a home on Woodhouse Street in the early evening of July 1 and was the result of a two-month-long investigation. The press release notes the home was the subject of numerous complaints regarding drug trafficking, thefts and “various disturbances.”

Among the drugs found at the home were about two ounces of crack cocaine, half an ounce of crystal methamphetamine and a small amount of fentanyl. Two men and two women ranging from 27 to 57 years old were arrested without incident, the release said. They were later released from police custody and are due to appear in Nanaimo provincial court.

“This is another example of community members working with the police to address a problem home, which was having a negative impact on their right to peace and enjoyment,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in the release.

The release added that as the search was being executed, neighbours “ventured onto the streets and were quick to express their pleasure that the occupants of the home were leaving and would be held accountable for their actions.”

The release advised that those experiencing similar issues with a “problem house” in their neighbourhood should call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
