Highway 4 east of Port Alberni will be closed for another full day as crews continue to remove large, hazardous boulders from the area. The highway will be fully closed on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
This marks the second of two full-day closures. The first, on Aug. 17, saw the removal of five large boulders—the largest of which was approximately 1.2 cubic meters—and 10 truckloads of rock debris from the area.

Work is continuing toward the full reopening of Highway 4, although the province’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has not named a date yet.
The highway has been closed off and on since June, when a wildfire broke out at Cameron Lake Bluffs near Angel Rock. Aside from the full day closure, it is open to scheduled single-lane alternating traffic while crews continue to secure the steep bluffs above the highway, following the destabilization caused by the wildfire.
