Christ Church Cathedral and the Emily Carr String Quartet are launching a musical sound journey this weekend to promote climate justice in Greater Victoria.

Titled Earth Songs: Music for Climate Justice, the six-concert series features one of Canada’s top quartets and the cathedral’s Wolff organ, played by a lineup of international artists.

“Each concert will focus on a different facet of our relationship with the natural world, aiming to educate, entertain and inspire change,” a release read.

The first three concerts, under the themes Air, Water and Land will be performed by the Emily Carr String Quartet, while the second half of the series will feature the pipe organ.

“Human beings are finally beginning to grasp that we are not the possessors of the Earth and its creatures, but rather one part of a great ecosystem upon which we rely, and which relies upon us,” said Christ Church Cathedral Rev. Ansley Tucker.

The first performance happens Friday (Feb. 11) at the Quadra Street cathedral, with subsequent concert dates March 11, April 22, May 27, June 1 and June 3.

Tickets range from $25 to $30 and can be purchased online at christchurchcathedral.bc.ca/earthsongs or at the cathedral office, 930 Burdette Ave. Call 250-383-2714 for more information.
