Vancouver ventriloquist Kellie Haines will ‘pull the strings’ in her latest show about conquering shyness and overcoming obstacles.

Haines will perform her newest production, A Birdy Told Me So, at Vancouver Island University’s Malaspina Theatre on Saturday, May 28, in a matinée show at 1 p.m.

A release noted the premise of the show follows eight-year-old Haines who feels like she doesn’t fit in at school. For her birthday, Haines receives a gift that can talk on its own, named Magrau – a chatty, confident bird puppet that has a flair for singing, dancing and making people laugh.

“This theatrical show blends storytelling with ventriloquism, puppetry, and singing. This story is about a child’s imagination and a lovable birdy who never gives up. Join us for this heart-warming, magical tale of overcoming shyness and sharing our talents,” noted the release.

Haines said the show will be a “fun romp” into a magical world based on her own feelings of overcoming obstacles.

“I just want kids to not be afraid of new things,” she said. “My main goal is to make people laugh with this, and make it fun.”

The release also noted that Haines’s A Birdy Told Me So is part of a three-show series that aims to introduce young children to the magic of theatre. In doing so, it’s meant to also provide parents, grandparents and caregivers an entertaining and educational alternative for family entertainment.

Tickets for A Birdy Told Me So can be purchased online at www.theatreone.ca.
