A tribute to a famous French songstress is coming to the Port Theatre for two nights this weekend.

The Vancouver Island Symphony is presenting ‘Tonight… Piaf’ on March 26-27, described as a “moving, compelling tribute” to Édith Piaf, starring “vibrant Nanaimo actor” Joëlle Rabu under the direction of Pierre Simard.

“Her voice was passionate. It was untrained,” Rabu said in a previous interview with the News Bulletin. “She was discovered in the streets of Paris so there was a certain rawness to her voice, her quality of interpretation of songs that I’ve always admired. She understood what she was singing about.”
