Canadian rockers The Trews descend upon the Capital Ballroom on Jan. 22 as part of their cross-Canada tour to promote their new album, Civilianaires.

Formed in the university town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, the band rose to popularity in the mid-2000s with the hit albums Den of Thieves and No Time for Later and anthemic rock hits “Tired of Waiting” and “Hold Me in Your Arms.”

The band, now based in Hamilton, is back with their first album in four years.

Civilianaires is being touted as a fresh take on the band’s original formula and features a new producer and a new and revamped sound to mix things up. Working with legendary producer Bob Rock, the band cut the album in Toronto and even co-wrote a few tracks with other Canadian rock royalty, including Max Kerman of Arkells and Serena Ryder.

The album’s first single is the politically driven “The New US,” which takes aim at Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump.

Playing with The Trews will be Altameda, who are touring their sophomore album Time Hasn’t Changed, set to be released Jan. 25. The Edmonton-based band employs warm bass lines, bluesy rhythms and lyrics dripping with nostalgia to deliver an easy-drinking rock that’s as much a nod to the past as it is a celebration of the present.

Tickets for The Trews and Altameda are $32.50 (plus fees) in advance, available at ticketweb.ca or Lyle’s Place records.
