Oceanside Folk/Roots Club will host Kat Kadoski and her one-woman show “Cougar Annie Tales” Oct. 21 at St. Stephen’s United Church (150 Village Way) in Qualicum Beach.
The critically acclaimed show tells the story of Ada Annie Jordan, a pioneer, homesteader and gardener, who settled in Clayoquot Sound in 1915. It features Kadoski as storyteller, actor, musician and singer.
The show came about when Kadoski moved to Vancouver Island’s west coast, according to a news release by Oceanside Folk/Roots Club.
“In 2007 I moved to an off the grid historical homestead/garden located 33 miles north of Tofino,” Kadoski said in the release. “It used to belong to a settler who became known as Cougar Annie. Shortly after arriving I began writing songs about her very interesting life.”

In her performance, Kadoski uses dramatic narrative, images, letters and original compositions to celebrate the life of Jordan, who earned her nickname by shooting dozens of cougars to supplement her income.
Jordan trapped more than 70 cougars, homesteaded a rainforest bog, opened a remote post office and outlived four husbands.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 7 p.m.
