The Port Theatre will bring a diverse range of cultural and artistic works to Nanaimo for its 2023-24 Spotlight season.
According to a release, the theatre will feature 16 shows from September to May, offering a variety of performances from storytelling to dance and musical acts.
The season kicks off with the Flame: The Nanaimo Stories on Sept. 24 and continues on Sept. 29 when Ballet Kelowna presents a “stunning lineup of signature works” from its contemporary repertoire.
The following month will see performances by Oktopus, a musical group primarily devoted to the klezmer genre, on Oct. 17, and Middle Raged, a stage show that “explores the time of life when you’re running out of time,” on Oct. 27.
November will see a “collaboration exploring the Haida worldview of a supernatural landscape” in sGaanaGwa: Winter Solstice on Nov. 9, as well as a European vacation through music when Sarah Hagen performs on Nov. 14.
Winter Harp, showcasing classical and Celtic harps, will return on Dec. 9, and Andrew Allen will “bring his festive and charismatic” performance in All Hearts Come Home on Dec. 21.
The Spotlight season continues into 2024 with International Guitar Night on Jan 28; Buwa on Feb. 13, Flip Fabrique: Blizzard on Feb. 21; Diyet and the Love Soldiers on March 6; Made in Italy on March 27; the Bergmann Duo on April 6; Ballets Jazz Montréal: Essence on April 24; and SE:UM on May 5.
