A Nanaimo man’s proficiency at stop-motion filmmaking has put him in the running for a $10,000 prize.

Vancouver radio station CFOX 99.3 FM has announced the finalists in its one-minute movie contest and Nanaimo’s Todd Cameron made the top 10 with his re-creation of his favourite movie, The Big Lebowski. The grand prize is $10,000, with $1,000 going to the fan favourite.

“Just to make the top 10 is really a vote of confidence for my newfound passion for making stop-motion films,” said Cameron, who last year had viral success with a stop-motion Schitt’s Creek music video.

Cameron used figurines but built all the sets himself. He said it took about 75 hours to complete.

“The challenge was seeing what kind of a piece I could produce with just my rudimentary equipment and my creativity,” he said.
