Nanaimo DJ headlines at ‘Block Party’ festival in Vancouver

Whipped Cream plays free event’s main stage Saturday, Aug. 20

A Nanaimo DJ known for her “eclectic set and hop-hop inspired beats” will headline at the fifth annual Monster Compound Block Party in Vancouver next week.

According to a release for the free event, Caroline Cecil, better known as DJ Whipped Cream, will play the main stage adjacent to Vancouver-based turntablists such as Sol Rising, Steph Tsunami and Unmarried Woman on Saturday, Aug. 20.

“We’ve seen an explosion in creativity across the Vancouver arts scene recently, so what better way to celebrate that community than with a free block party showcasing local music, art, food, and more,” said Monstercat’s head of events, Max Nied, in the release. “Our lineup is filled with hometown heroes from Whipped Cream on the Main Stage to Rumpus on the Westwood Stage, so attendees can expect some very special sets.”

The block party, which runs from 2-9 p.m., will be located at the Monstercat headquarters at 380 Railway St. in Vancouver, and will run stretch down Railway and Dunlevy Streets, according to the release.

The event will offer food trucks, a beer garden, street artists, an air-brushed tattoo station and a gaming zone.

According to her website, later this year she will be play the Noctural Wonderland music festival at the Glen Helen Regional Park in California Sept. 17-18, and then at the Firefly Music Festival 2022 in Dover, Delaware, Sept. 22-25.
