To celebrate the merriment of music making, the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra will present two central Island shows this weekend.
Musical Revelry will be performed on Saturday, June 8, in Nanaimo at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Departure Bay Road, and again on Sunday, June 9, in Ladysmith at St. Mary’s Parish on 4th Avenue.
According to a release, a highlight for both shows will be a solo performance by the chamber orchestra’s Concerto Competition for Young Musicians winner, Claire Mindell, playing Franz Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D Major. The release added that Mindell loves the overall flow of the piece and that she focuses on making it sound cheerful and effortless.
The first half of the program will also include Vivaldi’s Concerto in Sol Minore, and J.S. Bach’s Air on a G-String. The second half will feature Butterworth’s the Banks of Green Willow, Franz Schubert’s Four Songs for Strings, Marin’s El Medico de Piano, and Gabriel Fauré’s Dolly Suite.
“After this concert you may find yourself dancing your way out of the hall, or at least with a big smile on your face,” noted the release.
Both the Nanaimo and the Ladysmith shows will start 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students and are available online at www.nanaimochamberorchestra.com. Cash only will be accepted at the door.
