A South Wellington author has been shortlisted for the Crime Writers of Canada Awards of Excellence.
The shortlist for works published in 2021, announced in late April, includes 49 writers in different 10 categories.
Jackie Elliott’s Hell’s Half Acre, as published by Joffe Books, is one of five contenders under the new ‘Whodunit Award for Best Traditional Mystery’ category with a $500 prize.
According to a release, Elliot is a former real estate agent and small business owner turned self-help author and crime writer with a keen eye for what makes a community ‘tick.’
“In my experience, small towns with a heart have claws and teeth as well, and that makes the perfect back drop for a good murder,” said Elliott in the release.
Other works by Elliott, Coffin Cove (2021) and Hope Island (2022), have all reached bestseller status through various online retailers, noted the release.
Winners for Crime Writers of Canada Awards of Excellence will be announced May 26.
