The versatile and creative musician and vocalist Susannah Adams will bring her trademark vocals to a rare piano duo performance with Miles Black for a show in James Bay on Feb. 24.

Adams marked her debut on the jazz scene in 2014 when she opened the Victoria JazzFest’s 30th anniversary celebration. The following year she thrilled audiences at the 2015 Chemainus Jazz Festival.

“(Adams) is a consummate professional, constantly honing her craft. More than most singers, Susannah spends a great deal of time cultivating her original voice as an improviser, ” Dr. Patrick Boyle, Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Victoria said.

2016 saw Adams explore some new partnerships including a collaboration with internationally renowned musicians, bassist Sean Drabitt (Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Terrel Stafford), and trumpeter Miguelito Valdes (Buena Vista Social Club, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter).

Adams also delivered a stunning performance at the Victoria Jazz Festival, which roused hundreds to give her a prolonged standing ovation.

“(She’s) a very engaging and articulate jazz vocalist … worthy of wider recognition,” said Artistic Director of the Victoria Jazz Society, Darryl Mar. Adams will also play at Hermann’s Jazz Club on Feb. 12 for the club’s Valentine’s Double Bill also featuring Craig Henderson.
