A Ladysmith author hopes to spread positive messages through her newly released children’s book. Danielle Falk released What it Means to be Me at the end of August, a story about self discovery and self worth, aimed at kids three and older.

“I have always loved writing, but I never thought I would put myself out there,” Falk said. “Now that I am grown up and I am a mom, I wanted to make it a goal of mine to instill confidence in my own kids and hopefully others.”

The book was partially inspired by her struggles with low self-esteem and being bullied growing up. “I took some of my past experiences and wanted to turn them into something really positive,” she said.

The story is a “sweet and simple rhyming tale” that she hopes will teach people to love and accept their true selves.

The self-published book is her first and Falk said it has been well received and she plans to continue writing. Falk said she has been working to get the book known locally, as it is already available on Amazon and some American retailers.

“It’s hard. There are so many people at the same time trying to get their books out there so you have to work pretty hard,” she said.

A second book is in the works, which she said she hopes to begin the process of publishing soon.
