Corner Gas has got a lot of mileage for creator Brent Butt as a comedy franchise, from the TV series to the feature film to the new animated series.

But this B.C.-based comic’s live shows continue to prove popular with Vancouver Island audiences. The man whose character Brent Leroy has anchored Corner Gas since 2004 returns to the Island for two shows, April 6 at Nanaimo’s Port Theatre and April 7 at the Charlie White Theatre at Sidney’s Mary Winspear Centre.

Butt’s clean and relaxed comedic style has made him a favourite with audiences of all ages. While the TV series enjoyed its final season in 2009 after becoming Canada’s top sitcom on CTV and being syndicated internationally, Corner Gas has maintained its popularity in the years since. Reruns of Butt’s award-winning series, voted “Funniest Show on TV” by TV Guide readers, air on the Comedy Network and CTV.

After a successful film debut in 2016 with Corner Gas: The Movie, Butt reimagined the cast and series for Corner Gas: Animated, which has aired its initial 13-episode season this past fall and winter.

Making his home in Vancouver for more than a decade, Butt still tours the country, performing in clubs and theatres, and is an in-demand corporate entertainer.

“I love what I do.” he says. “I look at it as just having coffee. Only now it’s with hundreds of people at a time.”
