If the number of entries is anything to go by, the Cowichan Valley Arts Council’s 50th anniversary spring fine arts show is already a success.
More than 100 artists have entered the show, which has gone online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The show, which opened on Tuesday, May 5 and runs until Friday, May 22, can been viewed at https://cowichanvalleyartscouncil.ca/virtual-fine-arts-show-gallery/
Tune in on Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. for a special online talk about the art show, hosted by Rob McLean. “Everything You Need to Know About Art and…. Some Stuff You Don’t” will air on Zoom; check out the CVAC website for a link.
“The CVAC show is the largest non-juried show on Vancouver Island,” the group said in a press release about the 50th anniversary event. “Although entry is open to all, some of the works are singled out for recognition. A jury chooses 10 honorable mentions, five awards of excellence and one best in show award: this year it was an innovative metal sculpture made of keys by Will Banman. Just like the gallery version, the online show is interactive. Viewers can vote for their favourites for the people’s choice award, buy art online and watch video artist statements.”
