The Chemainus Theatre’s closure during COVID-19 restrictions has left a gaping hole in the community.
The protocols remain too restrictive to stage anything yet, but the Theatre is taking its first steps by reopening the Playbill Dining Room next Wednesday, Sept. 9.
“We hope this is a sustainable ongoing offering until restrictions open up a bit more,” said Chemainus Theatre managing director Randy Huber.
Diners will at least get to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of the dining room with some great food Wednesdays through Saturdays to start by reservation.
“Then we can build from there,” said Huber with renewed optimism.
At the same time, he said, “staff and guest safety are paramount.”
WorkSafeBC directives and guidelines from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry are being strictly followed.
Putting some people back to work and giving residents who’ve missed the theatre a dining option are exciting.
There will be live piano entertainment, with up to 50 per cent seating capacity.
“We can have up to 100 people in the space,” noted Huber.
Executive Chef Nick Caulford has prepared an impressive menu with fresh seasonal salads, delicious starters, a choice of three plated dinner meals and delectable desserts. Beverages from the specialty menu of wines, beers and estate ciders will also be available.
