Want to hear real-life stories told in a somewhat theatrical setting?

On Monday, Jan. 13, the Belfry Theatre is bringing back The Flame, the storytelling series that features real people, sharing their personal stories in front of a live audience.

Deborah Williams, an award-winning actor and co-creator of Mom’s the Word, returns to host this wildly popular event, that has flourished and grown since its inception in 2009, packing venues in Victoria and Vancouver.

The Belfry lobby, opening at 6 p.m., will be set up cabaret-style with tables scattered throughout the room. Seating is first-come, first-served and the event is expected to fill up fast. Stories begin shortly after 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $9.50 for students, plus tax, available at tickets.belfry.bc.ca.

The evening event follows The Flame: A two-day weekend storytelling workshop, Jan. 11-12, also led by Williams. She’ll work with participants who bring forward interesting anecdotes to get them performance ready, either for the stage or the dinner table.

This intensive yet fun workshop cost $150 and participants are asked to commit to both days, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Register at tickets.belfry.bc.ca.
