Colin Springford recently turned 75 years old and he received a fleet of trucks loaded with wonderful birthday greetings from his family, friends and neighbours in central Vancouver Island.
With the COVID-19 pandemic keeping Springford’s family from honouring the Nanoose Bay resident with a large celebration, they came up with the next best thing, a birthday truck parade.
On his birthday on April 10, Colin couldn’t hold back the tears as he waved with a big smile on his face at the trucks of varying sizes, along with some tractors and heavy duty vehicles, and also classic cars that drove by the Springford Farm on Northwest Bay Road, blasting their horns, with some screaming from their windows, ‘Happy Birthday, Colin.”

“Having moved to Parksville in 1975, our dad, Colin, has given so much to our family and our community, without asking for anything in return,” said Colin’s daughter, Clarice Springford. “Well, today, with a little help from a few friends, we got to give back. This morning 35-plus truck drivers, equipment operators and friends came together to honour our dad with a truck parade in front of Springford Farm. My heart was bursting with pride to see so many former employees and colleagues, celebrate him by being a part of this surprise.”
Clarice said on behalf of all the Springfords, “thank you” and also gave special thanks to Heather Miller for co-ordinating the parade and Darcy Morgan for filming it.
“This day will be in our memories forever,” said Clarice. My heart is very full tonight, as I suspect Dad’s is too.”
