Are you brave enough to take a polar bear dip on Jan. 1?

Get ready to make a bold and refreshing start to 2025!

On January 1, the annual ocean plunge will return to Goose Spit Park. Celebrating its 48th anniversary, this beloved community event invites everyone to dive into the cool waters of Comox Bay. A free, family-friendly tradition, it’s the perfect way to celebrate the spirit of the Comox Valley, bringing together people of all ages for a fun and refreshing start to the New Year.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., and the plunge promptly starts at 11:00 a.m.

“The polar plunge is an invigorating way to come together with energy and excitement for the new year ahead,” said Comox Mayor, Nicole Minions. “If you’re feeling hesitant about taking the plunge, come to watch and cheer on your family or friends - you just might find yourself taking the leap in next year.  Come join us on January 1!”

Participants can warm up afterwards with complimentary hot chocolate – don’t forget to bring your own mug. Exciting prizes will be up for grabs for those who register onsite, including Fitness Studio memberships, Comox Recreation gift certificates, and passes to the Comox Valley Regional District’s Aquatic and Sports Centre.

Comox Fire Rescue and a lifeguard will be onsite to ensure safety and standby assistance should it be required. Parking may be limited at Goose Spit, so attendees are encouraged to carpool or use active transportation to the event.

Safety for all the participants is a top priority:

  • Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Participants are advised to limit their time in the water to just a few minutes.
  • Dress in warm layers before and after the swim.
