PHOTOS: Herring run takes centre stage in Parksville Qualicum Beach waters

Send your pics to editor@pqbnews.com Residents, visitors take opportunity watch herring harvest

The weather wasn't the best as the day was cloudy and a bit cold. Despite this not so very pleasant day, residents and visitors were out in great numbers at various vantage points in Parksville Qualicum Beach to take a look at the close to 40 herring boats harvesting this silvery fish that is most abundant in the Strait of Georgia near District 69 on March 9.

While there were some who just looked at the event with curiosity and interest, there were others who took the opportunity to document the event by videotaping them or snapping some photos with their trusty cellphones, while serious shutterbugs with their huge camera lenses find nice spots to capture the activities taking place in the water.

Bringing excitement to the harvesting of the spawning herring were the wildlife that were out in force such as the eagles, sea gulls, various species of ducks and the loud barking seals.
