Parksville’s Church of the Ascension has made its shower facility available to homeless people in the community.
The church been offering its showers since last May, which Ascension pastor Mike Favero said “is a basic need.” He pointed out how important it is to maintain good hygiene with COVID-19 still a concern.
Recently, Favero received an illustration from one of the users that expresses his deep appreciation to the church for providing them a place where they can clean up as well as given some new underwear, s0cks and clothes.
The illustration features hearts flowing down on a person from the shower head as well as the facade of the Church of Ascension.
“Thank you for showering us with kindness, generosity and helping keep our dignity,” said the message that was printed in the illustration.
Favero said Catholic parishioners were touched by the illustration.
The church, located on 887 Wembley Rd., will continue to make its showers available to the homeless every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The church sanitizes the facility after they’ve been used.
